Registered Nurse/ Charge Nurse/ Long Beach Memorial Medical Center
Started a nursing career here with my ADN in 1998 at the start of the national effort to make health care safer and more transparent. Eighteen years later, I moved to Hawaii with irreplaceable experiences. Many of which included being a Lead Nurse of a busy 44-patient telemetry unit, a preceptor or orienter to dozens, a Nursing Practice Counsel and Nursing Performance Improvement Representative, Magnet Champion, and EPIC Superuser to staff and physicians. These experiences took place among labor disputes that included the implementation of a union and several strikes at a 410-bed facility. This was also a time when three generations of nurses and nursing leaders; baby boomers, gen X, and millennials had to learn about mandated reporting and how to work as a team to develop ways to improve patient safety, achieve the desired benchmarks, outcomes, and implement best practices. Long Beach Memorial Medical Center also became a Magnet Accredited facility while I was employed there.

Nursing Philosophy
Advanced Nurse Practitioners have the responsibility of representing nursing at one of the highest levels of practice. It requires the ability to combine science, compassion, understanding, and collaboration to deliver quality care that respects and seeks to understand patients as individuals.
As a nurse, I have always felt we are part of something bigger and promote human connection by always striving to help others. I also believe that the cultural beliefs and ethnic backgrounds of our patients and their families should always be respected. The aforementioned beliefs along with compassion, empathy, trustworthiness, respect, and equality led me to the nursing profession and continue to direct my career in nursing.
